Civil War romance – I believe the location was in Nachez. The book started with the bombing of the city – the girl is hiding up inside a cave on the hillside. A union officer takes over a young girls house. Her mother is quite ill. They are told to move out but due to the illness of the mother they are allowed to move into the attic. She ends up pregnant and the union officer ends up marrying her.
