Eric Warden knows that half-Shifter wildcat Iona is passing for human, living without a Collar in the human world. He also knows that if she does not acknowledge her Shifter nature and her mating hunger, it could kill her. Iona finds the mysterious and dangerous Eric, a wildcat and leader of his Shiftertown, haunting her dreams, but she vows never to "come out" and take the Collar, fearing backlash against her mother and sister for hiding the fact that she's Shifter. But Eric is a compelling Shifter male, and Iona's hunger calls to him.

Hi, and thanks for inviting me to your blog. To celebrate the release of Mate Claimed, I’ll interview its hero, Eric Warden.

JA: Eric—tell me a little about yourself.

Eric: What’s to tell? I’m a Shifter. A Feline—my family tends toward snow leopard.

JA: Tends toward? You mean you’re not really a snow leopard? Or what?

Eric (with patience): Shifters were bred from the best of all big cats, centuries ago, by the Fae. But families and clans have more of one cat than the other. Wardens are snow leopards, the Morrissey family in Austin are lions, and one of their trackers, Spike, is a jaguar.

JA: What about Iona? What is she?

Eric: Iona is a panther—a black leopard in this case. Rare, even for Shifters.

JA: What else can you tell me about Iona Duncan? I can be discreet.

Eric: She’s entering her fertile years, and her mating hunger is getting out of control. I worry about what will happen to her if she gets too wild. She might hurt herself, or her family, without meaning to. I want to bring her in, to mate-claim her, to help her out.

JA: I imagine she won’t like that.

Eric: No, she doesn’t. But once she’s met my sister and my son, and understands more about Shifters, I think she’ll get it.

JA: No other reason you want to bring her in? Not like—you think she’s hot?

Eric (smiling): OK, so that’s the other reason. I’ve never met anyone like her. I never thought I’d fall for anyone after losing my mate, but Iona’s making me change my mind. Her eyes—her eyes are this light blue, her hair is black—like the beautiful Celtic women from the Outer Hebrides or Ireland.

I’ve thought about backing off and letting other Shifter males have a chance with her, but every time I see her. Nope. Can’t do it.

JA: She’s the One, then.

Eric (quietly): Yes, she is.

JA: How’s your son going to take that?

Eric: Jace is amazing. He’s all for me finding another mate. He’s so grown up now. I can’t remember that happening.

JA: What about your sister and her husband?

Eric: Cassidy and Diego? They like Iona. She’s a strong-willed woman, and Cassidy likes that. But, you know Cass.

JA: Anything else going on in your life, Eric? What are you going to do about the new Shifters that have been forced to join your Shiftertown? And Graham, their leader?

Eric: Graham’s a complicated person. I get that he’s worried about the wolves under his leadership, but his pack has been isolated too long. He’s not getting that we’re going to have to do this together. He wants to take over. I’m not going to let him.

JA: Sounds like you have your hands full.

Eric: Yeah. But, you know, we’ll get there.

JA: With Iona?

Eric: With Iona. Definitely with Iona. I’m not doing it without her.

JA: Well, I wish you the best of luck.

Eric: I don’t need luck. I need a plan. And I have one.

JA: Learn Iona’s side of the story in Mate Claimed, Shifters Unbound Book 4, which is out now. I hope you all enjoy it!
