Vampire & Werewolves > Who started this trend?

What author do you think was instrumental in starting the vampire romance trend?

Ann Rice???? Rice's books where the first vampire books that I remember reading, but I don't remember much romance in them. But, I haven't read them in years..... There is one book of hers that has a great romantic story and it is called "The Mummy". It is HARD to find, but it is worth it to buy.

But Anne Rice's books aren't romance? I haven't read The Mummy though. I will check it out.

What about in the romance genre??

I remember reading a paranormal as the genre was in it's infancy. Not sure if I should mention the author as the book put me off paranormals for a long time. It is only in recent years I have starting to read more and more paranormals. A name I do remember from early on is Melanie Jackson.

The first vampire romance books I read were by Lori Herter, Nancy Gideon, Amanda Ashely,Maggie Shayne and Linda Lael Miller. They are all great writers and their vamp books are all great as well!
